the truth about introverts (part 2)

// // 24 comments
Introverts are often misunderstood. Truth! Last week Mime revealed the truth of how introverts feel when you meet them for the first time.

Today I'll uncover how you should act when you're trying to be friends with an introvert.

1. Do NOT under any circumstances pop over to an introvert's house without warning.

2. Don't rush things. Take it slow. Steady. Don't bombard introverts with too much EXTROVERT all at once.

3. They will warm up to you. Honest! Just be gently perseverant.

4. Show you care, no matter how awkward they are around you.

(Because, trust me, introverts feel awkward a lot.)

5. The best way to the become BFFs is to do things they like to do.

6. Introverts try to be polite and nice and not-awkward. But if you go all extra-extravert, they'll most likely die.

7. Be patient with your introverts. Half the time we feel like this:

8. Treat their habits, tendencies, anxieties with respect. Also, feed them frequently.

9. And you'll have a friend who'll last forever.

The more you get to know introverts, the more you'll realize the startling truth.

Introverts are like this on the outside...

And this on the inside...

cait is 92% introvert. when she is experiencing her other 8%, she's probably being bribed with ice cream. she'd rather be at home with a book then, what's the word? oh yeah...socializing. her introvertedness makes talking with human beans in real-life very awkward. she is very fond of her internet friends. very. very. fond. she is currently reading city of bones

    2. I've been having a lot of those introverted moments lately! We recently started going to a new church, and I'm going to the youth group stuff. I only know two people and they're more acquaintances than friends. And I'm going on a youth trip with them :O And riding in the church van with them :O I'm scared, so invited two of my best friends to go with me! My current motto is "When traveling with strangers, drag a friend along." :)

    3. Exactly, Jordan! I always pull along Mime with me. Hey, with a motto like that, at least you won't die/be-kidnapped/just-be-plain-uncomfortable alone. Introverts need support! And also chocolate. We just need these things.

  3. This is great. Loved the post, Cait. I should get back to you for Boybots in the next two weeks or so, by the way. Your book is much more interesting than summer reading, even if it is a second draft (in case you weren't sure). :)
I've read a few pages and it looks awesome so far.

  4. Yup...as an introvert among WAAAAAAAYYYY too many extroverted friends who like to pretend that they are introverted (and therefore bug the dickens out of me)...that last GIF is quite fitting. Once people get to know you, sometimes you have to hold back to keep them from getting scared off. :)

    1. EXACTLY. Mime is always giving me weird looks when I go afro-circus on her (it happens...a lot), whereas when I'm out, people are like, "Oh. You do talk." Thanks. Thanks a lot.

  5. This is hilarious. :) I especially like the Tangled one. And Treasure Planet. All very accurate (but of course you can't go wrong with Treasure Planet :) ). You know you meet an extrovert when they ask you, "So why are you so quiet?"
And you know you're an introvert when your answer is a nonverbal shrug and you think, "Because that's who I am?"

    1. You totally CAN'T ever go wrong with Treasure Planet. Or Tangled, really. Guaranteed successes.
Oh my gosh, yes. "Why are you so quiet..." What kind of a question is that anyway? Um, maybe because a) I like to be, or b) you're freaking me out with your extroverted-ness.
Hi-five to the nonverbal shrug. Yessss. (My second best is the: blank stare of incomprehension.)

  6. I'm not an introvert, but so many of these are immediately applicable to myself and my friends I just about keeled over laughing.

Those GIFs are perfection. Just saying.

    1. Haha! Thank you. I mean, gosh, it was hard work writing this post. It's only 85% GIF.

  7. So... could you explain your obsession with GIFs? And if you can't, could you at least explain how you got obsessed with them? XD I think it's hilarious that all your posts are half made up by GIFs XD

    1. Well, it happened like this...
On a dark and stormy night...
OKAY. We quote so much, we were always looking at YouTube for tiny clips of our quotes. And then we realized GIFs do the same thing, and they're easier! Thus the mutual love was born. I'm thinking of renaming what we do to GIFogging. Which is like blogging, but with GIFs.

  9. WHOA!! Your blog!! It's been days since I've been able to get on the computer and visit. I thought I typed in the address wrong. LOVE IT!! Those owls are so cute :)

I love this post. I loved Mime's too. I'm an introvert *hides face* but I'm definitely like Marty on the inside, especially on the internet. I sort of feel like that when I talk to you guys. Y'all just get me! Ohh the extroverts. There is only so much I can take of an extra extroverty extrovert. I really don't like when they push and push me to become more extrovert. It's not going to happen and you nagging is not making anything better. Let me come out of my shell on my own time, gosh dangit! A+ on the gifs, as always :)

    1. I'm SO glad you like the new look!! EEEK.

Yup, I'm 100% with you there. On the internet I can be pretty...wild? HA. You'd have trouble guessing I was an introvert (I actively avoid people. It's a consuming way of life, but hey, we all have our...quirks. Mmm. Okay!). My special pet peeve is when people say, "Just stop being shy!" Oh. Yeah. -_- Totally.

I'm going to rock this GIF diploma.

  10. That kind of sums me up rather well. But, I am going to keep this in mind because I think I know someone like this. They are very awkward and quite and withdrawn, but they've never seemed unfriendly though it would be easy to think it.

    1. That would be me. Ahh...hahaha! ;) I actually think there are a lot of introverts in the world. And we shouldn't be ashamed of it. As they say on pinterest: "Introverts unite! Individually."
